Thinking of Ladakh? Save This Itinerary And Thank Me Later
Straight From A Personal Experience
I visited Ladakh for 6 days this summer. And I have a lot of first hand experiences that can help you make your trip to Ladakh a regret-free memorable experience.
We opted for a 6-day package from MMT-the famouse Indian travell partner. However, in case of Ladakh I would suggest you to opt for at least a 7-Day package.
The Day-1 Problem
Since Ladakh is a situated in the lap of Himalayas at a significantly higher eleavtion from the rest of the country, You are required to spend the first day acametizing your body with the local weather.
You may feel symptoms like vomiting, headacke or dizziness due to suddenly shifting to this low-pressure environment.
This aclametizing day is not neccessary if you are travelling to Ladakh via Road. Since on road, your body slowly climbes this altitude giving your body a slow exposure to the changing atmosphere.
This leaves you with one wasted day in your itenerary. and you need at least 7 days to see all important places in North Ladakh!
North Ladakh! Yes There’s South And East Ladakh Too
Ladakh is not just Leh and the surrounding spots. ladakh is in the valleys, peaks and lakes and rivers from the border of Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand.
However this particular itenerary is only for North Ladakh, which I visited. so if you are looing for anything related to Kargil or Spiti valley, this blog is not for you.
Just like any other travelling destination, Ladakh as a whole region can not be explored in 7 days. It is just a part of it – that can be explored as a complete trip.
What Not To Miss In North Ladakh
North Ladakh has some of the widely known places. The first being Leh. Leh is a gateway to Ladakh if you are flying into Ladakh from Delhi.
Leh has a vibe like no other city in India, no mountaneous city has this same vibe to it. The unique geography and weather makes it one of the most picturesque cities in the world.
There are some places which you will not miss, but there are some that you may skip if you choose a wrong itenerary.
It is beyond Khardung La, La meaning a ‘Pass’, a mountain crossing that you might miss out. The region beyond Khardung La is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
